St. Lucie County septic and sewer help

In St. Lucie County, Florida, only the northeast corner is inside the Indian River Lagoon septic area, and help there mostly means paying over time. Fort Pierce Utilities Authority lists a single-family sewer connection at $10,395 with financing, a small lagoon grant pool may cover part of some conversions, and SHIP repair money helps lower-income owners.

Fort Pierce Utilities Authority (FPUA)

FPUA is converting septic neighborhoods to low pressure sewer, where a small pump unit at each home pushes wastewater to the main. Its May 2025 price list:

ConnectionPrice
Single-family home$10,395
Duplex, one combined sewer$14,855
Duplex, two separate sewers$20,790
  • Financing: FPUA says "financing options are available." Terms are not published; ask for them in writing.
  • Grant: in February 2026 the Indian River Lagoon Council tentatively awarded FPUA over $200,000 to pay about half the conversion cost for at least 38 homes, on a reimbursement basis and subject to final approval. That is a small pool; ask early.
  • Why it matters: FPUA says the St. Lucie health department will not permit a replacement septic system where FPUA low pressure sewer is available, and a new septic system would cost about $20,000.
  • Expansion neighborhoods named by FPUA include Fleetwood Acres, Green Acres, Jefferson Parkway, U-Vista Court, San Lucie, Kerr and Rolyat Street, and Orange Blossom Estates.
  • Contact: Fort Pierce Utilities Authority, 1701 S. 37th Street, Fort Pierce, (772) 466-1600.

North Hutchinson Island

St. Lucie County's North Hutchinson Island septic removal project covers about 530 homes in Fort Pierce Shores, Queens Cove, Coastal Cove and Coral Cove. The 2022 plan, as reported by TCPalm, combined about $8 million in state, water district and federal relief grants with an assessment of $535 to $817 a year for 20 years per owner. We could not confirm the project's current status or terms; ask St. Lucie County Public Utilities before you plan around them.

St. Lucie Village

The Town of St. Lucie Village received a $1.7 million state lagoon grant in 2023-24 for phase one of a septic to sewer project. What owners pay has not been published; ask the town.

Port St. Lucie

Most of Port St. Lucie is outside the 2030 program area, but the city's own program is the best payment plan we found in the region: a septic to sewer conversion for $8,258 (from October 1, 2025), payable at $67.90 a month at 0% interest over 10 years. The city supplies the materials and labor to connect to the pipe in the street. Port St. Lucie Utility Systems, (772) 873-6400.

The city's SHIP plan also has a water and sewer connection grant of up to $10,000 for lower-income homeowners, and repair help up to $53,500. Neighborhood Services, (772) 344-4084.

SHIP and other help

  • City of Fort Pierce SHIP: emergency repair up to $10,000 (a one-time grant) and rehab up to $100,000. The plan does not name septic, but lists plumbing in emergency repair.
  • St. Lucie County SHIP: reported to include septic repair or replacement and a septic to sewer category; we could not open the county's page, so call to confirm.
  • Rural western St. Lucie: may qualify for USDA Section 504, though most of that area is outside the 2030 program area.
